13″ of Rain and Counting

September 21, 2009

We have had almost non stop rain for the last week.  Just in one week (at my house) we have had 13″ of of rain thus far.  And it is not stopping.  Based on predictions, this may go on for a few more days.  So we may get over 20″ by the time it is said and done.  It is so bad in parts of metro Atlanta that they have had to close schools down in certain areas.  I have just never seen anything like this before.

While I like rain and water, below is a better example of the type of water that I woudl like to see then what I see outside my office window right now.

Indian Wedding Sneak Peak

September 11, 2009

There is a lot more to come, but here is a little glimpse of what I did last weekend.  This was a 3 day event with over 600 people.  Long hours and lots of photos (like 2,786 of them) but it was a blast to do and so much fun.  Thanks to Ruby Rideout for letting me shoot as a 2nd with her.  Ruby, I will do it anytime again!!

Student Council Portrait

September 1, 2009

My 7th grader comes home last week and tells me that he wants to run for Student Council.  Of course, I am a proud father and truly didn’t think much more about it other than the obvious stuff.  But last night he comes home and says that he needs to make posters for school.  And that is where my head starts to rush with excitement, because, boy do I have ideas!

I took a few shot of him last night and went to work at it.  When I showed this to him, in typical 13 year old fashion, he just rolled his eyes.  I don’t blame him; but I think it is not only good, but funny and memorable.  I asked him if people would like it, and he said that yes, and that it would stand out as he doubted that many other students had parents that knew PhotoShop.  See, there are some skills that come in handy even for a 13 year old.

Sunrise Light

August 24, 2009

For some reason, I like getting up in the early morning when the light is low and the noise is almost non-existent.  It is a time that I relish and look forward to each and every day.  Even if I don’t have to rise that early, I still do.  Sleeping in to me is getting up no later than 7am.  It may have started when we used to live in San Diego and I had to drive up toward Los Angles every day for work.  Each and every morning, I used to see the sun rise over the mountains as I drove along the Pacific Ocean.  At night, I would drive that same path in the opposite direction watching the sun set into the vast ocean.  I felt as if I was all alone watching this magic occur each and every day.  Those images, which I saw hundreds and hundreds of times, are ones that I relish in my memory.

I must have given that gift to my youngest son.  When I have an idea that involves getting up early, he not only is up for the adventure, but wants to make sure that we get up as early as possible; even if it means at 4:45am.  This weekend was no exception.  It was about having him to try and fish for the first time.  It was so quiet, you could hear the water as it moved across the dock, back and forth.  The sun rose in a mixture of dark and light. I don’t think I could have recreated this in PhotoShop had I wanted to.

And when I see images like this, I know why I get up so early in the morning.

Polaroid Portrait Shot

August 21, 2009

I saw this on another blog this week and I just had to try it out! After a bit, I found the site, downloaded the program and presto!  So I quickly found out that you can still shake your picture to make it appear faster. Really!! And who doesn’t love that. What to try it? Got to: http://www.poladroid.net/ to check it out!!

I love how it creates the colors that we were used to.  And look at the vignetting?  Still there…….

So just a Fun Friday test!! Enjoy your weekend. next week looks like a busy week!!

Portrait Shots

August 18, 2009

After thinking about it for a while, I decided not to import my old Blog. Kind of a fresh start if you will. But, even with that, I did want to bring over some of my favorite shots. I would feel bad leaving them all behind. So, after a lot of going back and forth, here they are. It was incredibly hard to get them down to just these few. And trust me, did you really want to look at 68 shots? I didn’t think so.
