Many years ago, when I was still a young lad, I used to race for Schwinn Bicycles. Every day, I would get up and train from 5:30 till 8am, when I had to be in school. When school was over, I would get back on my bike and ride till dark; do my homework and get ready to start it all over again the next day. Most weeks, I was doing between 5 to 6 hundred miles a week. I loved bike riding. There was always something fantastic about the speed and the motion of it.
Well, a long time has passed since then and I am sad to say that I really don’t ride anymore. But the passion and love of the sport I have never lost.
I heard about the Roswell Criterium (A criterium, or crit, is a bike race held on a short course (usually less than 5 km), often run on closed-off city center streets) this past weekend. Not only did I want to see the race, but I wanted to capture the speed and motion that I used to feel as a kid in my images. Below are some examples of the race this weekend.

Nice series of shots ! I really like the first and the last shots !
WOW these are amazing! Love the sense of motion and the intensity in the cyclists.
I think that all I can say is WOW! LOVE these shots! You are good.
Excellent shots Chris! Your tracking was incredible!
Oh, wow! Well done, Chris! Really excellent shots here. I used to ride about 100 miles a week – nothing like your 500-600! I need to get back on my bike…after I replace the seat that was stolen (yeah, can you believe someone would steal a seat!).
All I can say is wow… thanks for visiting my little blog… I could never touch your stuff! It’s great.

Excellent cycling images. Well done.
excellent variations of motion blur, really dynamic shots
Wow…great action images… great feeling of speed!
WOW what an amazing series of shots, I never cycled competitively as such, but did do a lot of cycling as part of my training for rugby, and then ended up doing a couple of triathlons, ohh so many years ago, dang now I build a sweat just watching people cycling lOL
Very good serie of action pictures. The top one is the best for me, a very good sense of speed but the main subject is sharp.
About the rock climbing photos the boy portrait is really excellent.
Very, very impressive, Christopher! Great use of motion and blur!
What a wonderful series. They are all so very good.
A great report
Great action shots ! I love the motion effect in first one. One very sharp and the others blurred… well done !
Have a nice weekend
that initial shot is amazing, how the guy in the lead is in focus and the ones behind are slightly blurred, it tells the story for sure!!!
You nailed these shots chris. There looks like they can be on the covere of sports Illustrated! 1st and 3rd image are as crisp as it can get. Well done.
BTW, I am the race director for the Roswell Criterium.
Christopher,
Can you please send me your email address. I would like to link to some of you photos on our website and also talk to you about the image at the top.
that first image simply blew me away! i also liked how you ended the series with the last photo too.. excellent reportage..
Excellent shots, Chris, and I’m sure you’ve got some others stashed away too. I really like the PP/treatment of the second shot – very unique. The top shot and the bottom shots are classic captures and I love the balance in the third. Fun seeing your take on all of the great action yesterday!
